My little buddy called me last night sobbing so hard he could barely catch his breath.
Max: "Gramma, my Blanky is broke." sniff. sniff.
Me: What happened?
Max: "I cut it with the scissors and ...... br..br..oke it." SNIFF. SOB!
Blanky is the little bear with a blanket attached that he has slept with his entire three-and-one-half-years. Molly got on the phone to explain, while he cried in the background. Apparently he got a hold of the scissors and cut the silky edge of his Blanky. When he saw what he had done he was horrified! He tried to fix it with a band-aid all by himself before he showed it to Molly. He finished sobbing and came back to the phone.
Max: "Gramma, can you fix my Blanky?" hiccup. hiccup.
Me: "I will come over tomorrow and fix it for you. Okay?"
Max: "No...come n..n.ow." hiccup. HICCUP. SOB!

I picked him up from pre-school today. We stopped for lunch , then went home to take his nap. Blanky sat in the car strapped into the carseat while we ate. When we got up it was time to fix Blanky. It was only a 1/4 to 1/3 inch cut, but he was very concerned about it. He stood on the kitchen chair, an inch away from my elbow, while I worked. First I tried to fuse it with iron-on tape, but that didn't work so well because it was too large to try to tuck it inside the tiny cut. Plan B. I got out the needle and thread. Max was concerned when he saw the needle. "That will hurt!", he cried. I told him that it wouldn't hurt; that it was like getting a haircut. He didn't quite believe me, because he still wanted to hold Blanky's "singer" (finger) while I operated. So damn cute. He sat on my lap while I stitched. He pointed out two other owies on Blanky that I repaired also. He was so relieved when it was done. He picked him up and kissed him, then went back to playing. But never let Blanky out of his sight.

We're (Almost) Famous
We were published in today's Bulletin Board in the Saint Paul Pioneer Press! (I was very surprised since I sent this story in over 3 months ago!)

"Keeping your ears open
Grandma Jody: Conversation overheard in the backseat between 4 1/2 year-old Princess Sophie and 7 year-old Luke (AKA Boy Genius) by my daughter Sarah.
Princess Sophie: "Today I petted a tarantula, a moth, and some other bugs too!"
Boy Genius: "A spider is NOT a bug- it is an arachnid. Arachnids have 8 legs, bugs have six."
Princess Sophie: "Well, the tarantula was really nice! She didn't have any claws!"
Boy Genius: "Mom, can that be true that tarantulas can be nice?" Apparently not convinced, he turns to Princess Sophie, "Hey, they aren't claws, they are fangs. And there are no nice tarantulas. It still wanted to bite you, it just couldn't." "
