Bob picked up Sophie at St. Peter's on this blustery Thursday and brought her to meet Diane, Danielle and I at Olive Garden. She appeared wearing a sundress and sandals! Bob explained that it was beach day at school and she refused to change, but my first thought was oh no Patrick. Sorry Patrick! On Thursday night, Grandpa took Sophie to "Grandfather Day" at preschool. Her class performed a couple songs which she re-created for me in the kitchen on Friday morning. One was something about a squirrel's bushy tail during which she promptly turned around and shook at me! The other was about "peeling a banana, eating a banana, and going BANANAS" in which she jumped around a lot. Both were pretty darn cute.

Luke and Sarah came over to hang out for a while after school on Friday before heading home with Sophie. He asked Sarah to play cards with him and they sat in the tiny chairs at the coffee table while he dealt them.
Luke: Yeah, I got red threes. They are worth 100 points.
Sarah: (looking at her black three).
Luke: Black threes are the worst.
Me: Are you sure Luke? That sounds weird to me.
Luke: Yes. And Jokers are wild. He tells Sarah to pick up from the deck.
Sarah: What now?
Luke: You need four of a kind.
Me: I don't know about this Luke.Sounds like you are making it up.
Luke: No. I play it at after-school daycare. He continues playing with Sarah and sprouting off rules...
Me: (Incredulous.) Come on Luke. That is not a real game.
Luke: Yes it is!
Me: Okay, prove it. What's it called?
Luke: Canasta!
I don't believe for one minute that he was playing Canasta, but really, where does a 5 year old come up with this stuff?

Last night Bob and I went to Molly's to babysit Max. He spent the entire night cuddled next to me on the couch. Once in a while he'd look over at me and smile his little Jack-O-Lantern grin. At one point I thought I smelt something.
Me: Max, did you toot?
Max: No. (lifts his little hand and points his finger at Grandpa sitting in the chair.)

A Very Trying Time
Bob has been sick the last couple of weeks. First diagnosed with pneumonia, it turned out to be life threatening blood clots in both lungs. He is home and recovering now. And I lost my beloved Tigger yesterday. He left a large cat-shaped hole in my heart. It was a week filed with uncertainty, fear, anxiety, ups and downs that I wouldn't ever want to repeat.
